Letter to the Editor

The past few weeks have brought challenges to our community, our state, and our country. The health of the folks in our county are the main concern of the people that work at the county health department. Covid 19, the coronavirus can affect anyone, and living in a county that has people traveling to MT Lake, the Ozarks, or to Hannibal from many larger cities has the potential to cause harm here. Remember there is limited testing for the virus, there is no therapy for the virus, and Covid 19 can be deadly, especially to those with underlying health conditions.
The order that the Governor issued and the Ralls County Health Ordinance that is in effect until April 30, requires that people maintain social distancing, keep groups to less than 10 people, sanitize, cover your cough, and wear a mask if possible if you are out in public. Shopping for food and essentials, and going to work if your job is classified as essential are permissible activities.
Preventing the spread of Covid 19 is not a burden. It is what a community that cares about each other does. The County Commissioners and the Health Department are working together to see that all of us can remain safe and maintain the health of our citizens.
