Regional Missouri Bank's 7[th] Annual Ag College

Regional Missouri Bank will host their 7[th] Annual Ag College at Salisbury High School on Tuesday, March 14 at 6:00 pm. Doors will open at 5:30 pm with a light meal to be served. This event is free and open to the public. Everyone is asked to RSVP to Lydia Wagy (RMB AG College coordinator) by calling 660-338-2236 or emailing lydiaw@regionalmo.bank by March 7[th] at 5:00 pm. Lydia states, "I'm ecstatic to be part of the team planning Ag College once again. This night provides valuable and useful information for our local community members to make informed decisions about the upcoming year. Everyone at Regional Missouri Bank wants success for those in our local communities and this free event is just one example of the quality service we provide."

Farmers and community individuals will gather to discuss agricultural topics such as weather and pre-planting marketing. Two University of Missouri speakers; Dr. Anthony R. Lupo, and Ben Brown will be the lead presenters. Dr Lupo is the Atmospheric Science Professor & Interim Director of the Missouri Climate Center from MU. His presentation topic is titled, Early Weather Outlook - Summer 2023. Ben Brown is the senior Research Associate from the University of Missouri Food & Agriculture Policy Research Institute. His presentation topic is Pre-Planting Market Thoughts and Considerations.

Dr. Lupo indicates that, "It's looking good that the upcoming summer season will be better than last summer."

Dr. Anthony R. Lupo is a Professor of Atmospheric Sciences in the Atmospheric Science Program at the University of Missouri. He earned his BS in Meteorology from the State University of New York at Oswego in 1988, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Purdue University in 1991 and 1995, respectively. His research has been in the areas of large-scale atmospheric dynamics, climate dynamics, tropical meteorology, and climate change including modeling, and has nearly 160 peer-reviewed publications across these areas.

Benjamin Brown says, "Northern Missouri experienced a relatively good year in 2022 despite increasing input prices, but there is a lot of downside risk facing producers for 2023: Declining grain and oilseed prices, higher production costs, increasing interest rates on operating loans, and growing geopolitical tensions all present headwinds."

Ben Brown is an Extension Specialist with the Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute and the MU Extension Agricultural Business & Policy program both at the University of Missouri. He previously served as an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice in Agricultural Risk Management and Program Manager for the OSU Farm Management Program at The Ohio State University. A native of Western Missouri, growing up on a diversified row crop and cattle operation, he was active in 4-H and FFA leading to his passion for Extension. Ben received undergraduate degrees from Kansas State University in Agricultural Economics and Agronomy. He received graduate degrees in Agricultural and Applied Economics from the University of Missouri- Columbia. His area of work focuses on applied farm management with interests in U.S. farm policy, commodity price analysis, and farm financial performance. He is thankful that he has been given the opportunity to work with producers and agribusinesses as a career.
