Hannibal Regional Now Providing Rapid COVID-19 Testing

In the fight against COVID-19 early diagnosis is critical to help keep the virus from spreading. Hannibal Regional is pleased to announce they can now provide rapid COVID-19 testing for priority groups using the Cepheid PCR Analyzer. This test dramatically reduces the amount of time typically needed to receive a diagnosis, which will benefit patients and help to better control the spread of the disease.
“We are excited to offer in-house rapid molecular testing to our designated prescreened patients. Rapid turnaround will help expedite identification, isolation, and treatment of our community members, states Dr. Harsha Desai, Medical Director of the Hannibal Regional Laboratory.
The Cepheid testing can provide rapid detection within two hours, which allows for quicker quarantine and treatment of patients suspected of having COVID-19, or in the case of a negative result can keep patients from spending time in the hospital.
