Face Masks for essential right now for everyone, especially healthcare workers. The sad thing is being essential isn’t helping with the amount that is readily available.

Marjorie Simpson Rekhow says, “I saw the need coming for masks and put the word out for help. I bought fabric and delivered supplies to the volunteers. I am trying to get more fabric and supplies”

Those that have volunteered to sew masks are Mary Sue Branham; Susan Sharp; Nancy Bierly; Jackie McNabb; Brenda Vaughn and Jean Bell as of Friday, April 3. Now that the word has gotten out more have starting pitching in.

DISINFECTED 100% Cotton Fabric, Elastic for ear loops or behind the head and Medium weight fusible interfacing is needed if you have any laying around in your sewing or craft bins at home. If someone needs a pattern, they can be found online or ask another sewing friend that is making them for their pattern. Typically, two layers are enough, three or even four obviously would be better. Filters can also be used to help with the reusing of the mask. Coffee filters and vacuum filters are two great ideas to use. All fabric must be washed in hot water and shrunk before you sew.

The masks are being taken to SSM and the VA Home in Mexico. “I have been contacted by both organizations and Moberly Regional Hospital,” said Marjorie. Some of the masks are also being sent to Miller's Resident Care and Monroe City Manor. Several Monroe County residents are helping in the delivery process.

Aliesha Edwards, Mexico VA Hospital Administrator, says on facebook, “The masks are very well made and you have no idea how much they are appreciated. With the masks we can protect our most vulnerable population.....plus they are Veterans!! We love our Vets! Thanks ladies!!”

Sarah Secrease, said, “Thank you so much for giving us masks at Miller Resident Care!!

I applaud everyone for stepping up and helping during this very uncertain time in everyone’s health.
