What I Love About My Community Essay Contest

By Marcie Buckman & Robin Gregg
Bringing highlights and proudness of our community is the goal and students expressing their creativity of their appreciation for their community is what it shall be!
Marcie Buckman reached out to me, April 6, with this idea and I immedicably fell in love with the positive awareness this could give. After a bit of sharing of thoughts, a plan for an Essay Event was created.
The Paris Chapter group Xi Beta Xi is sponsoring an Essay Event; ‘What I Love About My Community’. Marcie says, “Our group makes our money from the Antique Show that we had to cancel this year. We are very sorry we had to cancel our yearly Easter Egg Hunt this year to protect the community, so I tried to come up with an idea that would still bring positivity to the community as well as involving the kids.”
The contest is open to any student that is in school at Paris, Madison, or Holliday areas this year. Three prizes for $25.00 each will also be awarded at random to three students who submitted their essays by the deadline. All essays to be considered must be 100 words or less.
“We will award a $75.00 prize to the essay selected by impartial judging as well,” said Marcie.
All essays must be only positive things that they find in their lives with their family, friends, neighbors and community or happy memories they have living here. These letters will be positive words to help raise the spirits of their neighbors. We look forward to hearing the great stories our children can tell us about what they like living in the community.
Xi Beta Xi members are Pam Reinhard, Elinda Ketchum, Janet Huffman, Sue Mattingly, Kay Gray, Christy Barton, Lisa Hollingsworth, Debbie Jones, Judy Graham, Mary Beth Mitchell, Sarah Bates, Kathy Heitmeyer, Chris Threlkeld, Joy Kelly, and Marcie Buckman.
The submission deadline for all articles, typed and emailed to me at robingregg@monroecountyappeal.com is May 1, 2020. Essays will be printed in the Monroe County Appeal on May 7, 2020.
If anyone would like to sponsor these articles, please contact me as well. Parents are encouraged to do so and we will have a special rate for those.
