Dear Editor

January 06, 2026

Early on the morning of Friday, December 26, I was driving from Hannibal to Columbia via the backroads. While on Route W near Monroe City, my eyes began to burn. I pulled over a little, but not entirely out of my lane, and put on my 4-way flashers while I dug in my purse for my eye drops. In my rearview mirror, I saw a truck approaching and then saw it slowing down. When it pulled alongside me, a woman in the passenger seat rolled down the window and asked if I was okay. I said I was fine and had just pulled over to put in eye drops. The truck went on down the road.

I want to thank the people in the truck who stopped to check on me. You see that kind of friendliness less and less these days, and I truly appreciated their stopping to make sure that the unknown driver of a car was safe and intact. Their stopping made my day.

Sincerely,
