How to Watch Super Bowl 2026 Securely, No Matter Where You Are
February 08, 2026
A virtual private network (VPN) allows users to watch streaming events securely from anywhere in the world. Cybersecurity experts warn against watching illegal sports streams and choose only those VPN providers that do not store logs of user activity.
On February 8th, millions of sports and entertainment fans will tune in to Super Bowl LX, featuring a halftime show by rapper Bad Bunny. Due to geo-specific filtering, travelers and others might find it difficult to watch the event. According to cybersecurity experts, using a virtual private network (VPN) can secure online connections and allow access to authorized streaming platforms from any region.
Super Bowl will be broadcast on Sunday, February 8, live from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. It will feature a matchup between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks.
The event will be closely watched not only by sports fans but also by those who want entertainment, as rapper Bad Bunny, the most-streamed Spotify artist of 2025, will headline the halftime show. Meanwhile, the pre-show will feature artists such as Green Day, Brandi Carlile, Coco Jones, and Charlie Puth.
According to Nielsen, last year's Super Bowl was viewed by an estimated 127,7 million people, and was the most watched Super Bowl in history. With such a massive global audience, the 2026 Super Bowl is expected to attract similar or even higher viewership.
This year, NBC and Peacock in the US, and Sky Sports and Channel 5 in the UK are among the official broadcasters of the show which will start on Sunday, at 6:30 PM ET (11:30 PM GMT).
According to experts at Planet VPN, a VPN provider that emphasizes a free service, travelers and others may face region-specific filtering that can prevent them from watching the show.
Konstantin Levinzon, co-founder of Planet VPN, says that to ensure a secure and uninterrupted experience, fans of the show should use legal streaming services along with a VPN for privacy and protection.
“VPN allows you to connect to a server in any country and access content that is limited to certain regions. For example, travelers can connect to a server in their home country and watch the event on the same platform they would use at home. In addition, VPN encrypts all of the traffic and makes sure that the website's users stay private and not accessible to anyone, even their internet service provider,” he says.
Securing connections with VPN is also important for those who will be watching the event via Wi-Fi networks in their home countries. According to Levinzon, Wi-Fi networks are a perfect place for cybercriminals to steal users’ data, as they do not protect connections with encryption.
When it comes to choosing a VPN provider, Levinzon stresses the importance of going for one that takes privacy seriously.
“We recommend using only those VPN providers that do not track users without their consent and do not keep logs of their activity,” he says. ”Whether you are watching the Super Bowl, or any other show, avoid illegal streaming services at all costs, because they can compromise your device with malware and steal your personal information. Using trusted, legal streaming services along with a reliable VPN ensures your data remains secure.”
