Mark Twain Softball Finds Success During Demanding September Schedule

The Mark Twain Lady Tigers battled through a demanding stretch of games in September, showcasing resilience, balanced offense, and strong pitching while collecting several key victories. 
The Lady Tigers most recently earned a 13-7 conference victory over Van-Far on Sept. 17, pounding out 14 hits in an impressive offensive display. Annabelle Roberts led the attack with a double and two runs scored, while Ella Moss crossed the plate three times. Amaris Melvin added two hits and three RBIs, Lilah Tischer doubled and drove in three runs, Jordan Wilkinson collected three hits and three RBIs, and Chloe Hodges contributed two doubles and three RBIs. Despite not playing their cleanest game, Mark Twain found a way to secure an important win. 
Two days earlier, the Lady Tigers dropped a hard-fought 4-0 contest to a talented Silex squad. Roberts turned in a strong performance in the circle, while the defense backed her with two double plays. Ella Moss provided one of the game's highlights with a diving catch behind second base. Melvin recorded a double and Alyvia Paxton added a hit in the loss. 
Mark Twain bounced back on Sept. 14 with a convincing 21-9 victory over Hermann. Roberts finished with two hits, four runs scored, and three RBIs, while Melvin crossed the plate four times. Moss added three RBIs, and Tischer went a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, triple, and two RBIs. Paxton contributed a double and RBI, Jordan Wilkinson scored twice, and Emma Conrad added a hit, RBI, and three runs scored. Brylee Blackstun and Vada Rule each scored twice as 11 different Lady Tigers either recorded a hit or scored a run in the team effort. 
On Sept. 8, Mark Twain came up short against Montgomery County despite a solid overall performance. The Lady Tigers recorded more hits against the opposing pitcher than they had in any of the previous four seasons. Addy Hathaway had a hit and scored a run, Roberts collected two hits while pitching well, Moss drew two walks, Tischer reached base twice and scored, and Melvin added a hit and RBI. 
One of the team's most impressive wins came Sept. 3 when the Lady Tigers defeated Palmyra 10-0 in five innings after falling to the Panthers just days earlier. Hodges tossed a three-hit shutout, while Roberts and Melvin each recorded two hits. Paxton added two hits and three RBIs, and Tischer collected two hits and scored twice. Nine different Lady Tigers scored a run in the balanced offensive effort. 
Mark Twain also earned a hard-fought 12-9 victory over Monroe City on Sept. 2. After both teams traded early runs, the Lady Tigers responded with timely hitting. Tischer blasted a three-run home run to center field, Moss finished with three hits, a double, and two runs scored, and Paxton added three hits and two RBIs. Roberts contributed three hits, while Vada Rule added two hits and an RBI as seven different Lady Tigers recorded hits. 
The busy stretch began Sept. 1 with a 3-1 win over Paris. Hodges was dominant in the circle, pitching a complete game while allowing just two hits and one run. She also doubled at the plate. Jordan Wilkinson and Ella Moss each had a hit and scored a run, while Addy Hathaway and Brylee Blackstun drove in runs. 
The Lady Tigers also competed in the North Shelby Tournament, opening with a 14-4 victory over Marion County. Mark Twain pitchers Chloe Hodges, Annabelle Roberts, and Addy Hathaway combined to throw a no-hitter. Ericka Gilbert reached base four times, recording a hit and three walks while scoring three runs. Moss highlighted the offense with two hits, including a grand slam, while Tischer launched a three-run home run. Emma Hodges collected three hits, including a double, and scored twice. Abby Lane added two hits, a walk, and two runs scored, while Raegan Duckworth recorded a hit and RBI. Emma Conrad also contributed a hit and scored a run. 
The second game of the tournament saw the Lady Tigers fall 4-3 to Paris despite jumping out to a 3-1 lead after the first inning. Roberts pitched well, allowing only four hits and no earned runs while also walking and scoring. Tischer added a hit and RBI, and Melvin reached base all three times with a hit and two walks while driving in two runs. 
Mark Twain rebounded in dramatic fashion in the tournament finale, edging Van-Far 7-6. Hodges delivered a strong effort in the circle, keeping her composure throughout a challenging game. Hathaway collected two hits and scored twice, while Melvin continued her hot streak by reaching base in all three plate appearances with a double, two walks, and an RBI. Moss delivered a clutch two-run double that put the Lady Tigers ahead, and Hodges helped her own cause with two hits and three RBIs. Wilkinson drew three walks, and Rule caught all three games in the summer heat, providing steady leadership behind the plate. 
Through a demanding schedule, the Lady Tigers have continued to receive contributions throughout the lineup. Strong pitching, timely hitting, and solid defense have helped Mark Twain remain competitive night after night as the season enters its final stretch.
